B.O.Y Polished Blog Awards 2013

As I was browsing through Interior Design’s Best of Year 2013 award winners yesterday I was shocked at some of the furnishings that were selected. Don’t get me wrong I’m pretty sure the craftsmanship and thought process behind the design(s) were perfectly executed, but some the final products were not visually convincing. It would be very interesting to see all the submittals and compare them to the top and final winners along with the judging guidelines. After browsing through my categories of interest I decided to do our very own Best of Year “Awards” minus the award(more of a recognition of design and craftsmanship). So without further ado here are our winners!

CHANGING SPACES

Moving furniture from one space to another can be dreadful, but seeing the result of the same furniture placed in a different layout was very exciting. The new units floor plan and finishes compliment the chic yet cozy furnishings much more than the previous unit. Breaking the rules and placing furnishings such as the dining furniture where it is not called out to be functioned way better! Put down the paint brush and take a look at these amazing wallcoverings that are sure to transform your walls. Although wallcoverings can be expensive knowing were to apply it can help make a grand impact in any room. The right amount of pattern can also eliminate the need for wall art making the wallcovering a piece of art on its own.

Setting this season’s table & Tips for holiday decorating

Whether your home is grand in scale or a more intimate size: its easy, with the right dinnerware and accessories to create a cozy, welcoming yet luxurious feel and to create a setting for an intimate gathering where traditions mingle with unique touches.

Some would rather take a more leisurely approach on holiday celebrating with Traditional decorating, delicious homemade treats and memorable presentation set the stage for relaxing with guests, and simply enjoying the season.

Some more tips on Holiday decorating:

Make your Christmas tree the focal point of your decorating indoors. In the area where adults will gather, choose a design for your tree that’s unified in palette and theme,

Thanksgiving: setting the family table

Setting the Thanksgiving family table is often just as important as what is served on it. Design House International at the Greystone Mansion

I had the opportunity to experience the Design House International event this Sunday thanks to a great friend of mine. The property and all of its surroundings were simply amazing! My highlight of the house tour was the second floor. Nearly every room was beautifully designed in a manner that made the space feel livable and not like a museum of aged furnishings. Here are a few images that I captured of the spaces that I loved the most.

Having the ability to draw, render, and create a great furniture piece takes a creative mind and time. The back bone to a great furniture design company is effective branding. Branding should clearly capture the companies concept and aesthetic quickly and effectively. During my on going research on furniture design and branding I came across a few companies/ branding concepts that are a great example of effective branding.
